People often ask us how we got started in the wine business. Well, if we were going for a long ride or sitting around a crackling campfire, we’d tell you a long story of how it all began. Since we’re not, the short version starts with meeting and becoming best of friends with Mike Sangiacomo when we were in college at
Our Philosophy
We had a few stops along the way before starting Silver Spur, and the most formative experience was starting Scuttlebutt Brewing Co, another family venture. Over the 10 years we spent in the craft beer business, we never heard a customer say, “I don’t know much about beer…” However, we hear it all the time when people talk about wine, almost as if folks are embarrassed if they can’t detect the aroma nuances between an Asian and Bartlett Pear. We developed the philosophy that our customers have to know only what they like in a wine, and in particular if they find value in our wine. If you like your Pinot Noir over ice (like both our moms do), then that’s just fine with us because that’s what you like. In the end, it’s what you like, not what the Wine Spectator says, that’s important to you and us.
Our Passion
We started Silver Spur Wines because we believe a lot of happiness can be found in the union of good wine, good food, and good people. It's a magic formula, we believe, that creates unbreakable bonds and lasting memories.
Why “Silver Spur” and not “Château Doud”? We realized our Western heritage - with its commitment to doing things right -- gave us a strong foundation from which to start. The final influence that gave birth to Silver Spur Wines came at the Salinas Rodeo where we realized how we could focus our passion. We set out dedicated to crafting wines that capture the Spirit of the American West…Bold, Unpretentious and Gratifying. Wines that fit this profile make ordinary events unforgettable, turn acquaintances into friends, and friends into family.
Everyone at Silver Spur Wines is committed to fostering experiences to remember - for you, your family and friends. We've provided the perfect wine - the friends and food are up to you.
Cheers!
